Abstract
This section defines the communication protocols between systems that wish to interconnect in an open systems interconnection environment using a connection-oriented approach. This section includes the core functional units used to establish and release application connections. When no new services are added during the connection establishment process, the authentication functional unit can provide additional facilities to support authentication information. ACSE authentication facilities can be used to support a limited range of authentication methods. During the connection establishment process, the application context negotiation functional unit can provide additional facilities to select an application context.
