This standard specifies the classification, performance requirements, and test methods for signs and labels used on road vehicles to provide vehicle information. This standard applies to various types of signs and labels used on road vehicles to display vehicle manufacturing information, warning information, and control and instructional information. This standard does not apply to vehicle identification marks directly formed on the vehicle or vehicle component bodies by methods such as engraving, etching, casting, spray painting, or sewing onto the component bodies. This standard does not apply to vehicle or component identification marks used during vehicle production, transportation, or handover (which can be removed before normal vehicle use). Various types of signs and labels used on vehicle components and assemblies can be referenced and adopted accordingly.
