Abstract
This document provides guidelines for evaluating and selecting alternative materials, components, or assemblies for manufactured products based on pre-selection tests.
This document describes how pre-selection provides a comparative method of fire hazard testing to evaluate the performance of samples, and how pre-selection is used in the design process of finished products to select materials, parts, components, and assemblies. At the same time, it further describes how to use standardized testing methods as part of the decision-making process to minimize the fire hazard of electrical equipment. It considers the expected response to the fire performance of finished products and the possible impact of environmental conditions on the performance of finished products.
This document is intended for use by product committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
One of the tasks of the product committee is to use this series of standards wherever applicable when preparing standards in this field. Unless specifically mentioned or listed in the relevant standards, the requirements, test methods, or test conditions of this document will not apply.
