GB/T 1546-2018 Pulp—Determination of Kappa number
Abstract
This standard specifies the method for determining the Kappa number of pulp.
This standard is applicable to various chemical and semi-chemical pulps with a Kappa number ranging from 1 to 100. For pulps with a Kappa number greater than 100, the chlorine consumption of the pulp can be measured to assess the degree of delignification.
Note: There is no universal and clear relationship between the Kappa number of pulp and the lignin content in pulp. This relationship varies with the type of wood and the delignification process. In addition to lignin, all compounds that can be oxidized by potassium permanganate will increase the consumption of potassium permanganate, leading to an increase in the Kappa number. If the Kappa number is used to indicate the lignin content of pulp, specific formulas can be established for different types of pulp.
