Scope

This standard specifies the method for determining the gaseous nicotine in ambient air.
This standard is applicable to tobacco and tobacco products.
Note 1: If using this method to determine nicotine from cigarette smoke, it should be noted that the nicotine present in the air can only serve as a qualitative indicator of whether smoking behavior has occurred. Studies have shown that the content of nicotine cannot be used to quantitatively infer other components of cigarette smoke.
