Scope

This standard specifies the performance requirements for archival paper.
This standard applies to paper used for documents, records, and publications that need to be permanently preserved and frequently used.
Note 1: Since documents and publications preserved permanently have high historical, legal, and other important values, it is necessary to use archival paper. Archival paper does not refer to general-purpose paper, but is a specialized term. The term "archival paper" does not mean that only paper used in archives is "archival paper".
Note 2: The relationship between this standard and GB/T 24423-2009 "Durability Requirements for Paper Used in Information and Documentation" is explained in Appendix A.
