GB/T 16459-2016 Tool life testing in face milling
Basic Information
Scope
This standard specifies the recommended procedures for milling steel and cast iron parts with hard metal face milling cutters during life testing. It is applicable to both laboratory and production environments. When milling end faces, the cutting conditions can be considered in the following two types: a) conditions where the tool mainly fails due to wear; b) conditions where the tool mainly fails due to other phenomena, such as cracking of the cutting edge or plastic deformation. This standard only considers the recommended values for tests primarily focused on tool wear. Tests for the second type of conditions mentioned above are currently under study. This standard specifies the norms for the following factors when conducting tool life tests with the face milling cutter shown in Figure 1: workpieces, tools, cutting fluids, cutting conditions, equipment, evaluation of tool failure and tool life, test procedures, and recording, evaluation, and reporting of results.
