Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terminology and definitions for shallow sowing cultivation of rice, as well as technical requirements for land preparation, fertilization, sowing, water management, weed control, pest and disease prevention, and harvesting. This document is applicable to rice production in the Yinchuan irrigation area of Ningxia. Main technical content: 3 Terminology and definitions: The following terms and definitions apply to this document. - Shallow sowing: A method of dry direct sowing of rice using row seeders or hole seeders, with a sowing depth of 1–2 cm. The crop is promoted to emerge by alternating dry and wet irrigation, and a water layer is established after the third leaf stage. - 4 Land preparation and deep tillage: Deep tillage and weed removal are carried out after harvesting the previous crop. The tillage depth should be 25–30 cm. In spring, land preparation should be completed between late March and early April. The field should be leveled using a leveling instrument, with a height difference within 3 cm. In mid-to-late April, the field should be tilled using a rotary tiller or disc harrow to a depth of 10–15 cm, followed by leveling to achieve a flat, fragmented, and compact surface. - 5 Seed selection: Use varieties approved by the national or regional authorities with a growth period of no more than 148 days. For seed treatment, select a fungicide containing Metalaxyl + Famoxadone as the main component and apply it at a ratio of 1:120–1:200, or a fungicide containing Metalaxyl + Azoxystrobin at a ratio of 1:300–1:500. After treatment, the seeds should be dried until the moisture content is below 14.5% and then bagged for sowing. The sowing period should begin when the average daily temperature exceeds 10°C, typically between April 20 and May 10. Sowing should be carried out using row seeders or hole seeders with a sowing depth of 1–2 cm, ensuring 80% of the seeds are covered by soil. The row spacing should be 18–20 cm,
