Starting from early May, timely defoliate the first- and second-order branches and overly long jujube pendants of winter jujube trees. The defoliation location and extent of the first-order branches depend on the position and growth trend of the branches. For branches located in the inner crown of the tree with limited growth space or weak growth, retain three second-order branches for heavy defoliation. For branches located on the outer edge of the tree with ample growth space or strong growth, retain six second-order branches for light defoliation. After defoliation, retain 3-4 nodes on the branches. For overly vigorous and long jujube pendants, retain about 12 leaves for defoliation.
