Scope

This standard specifies the symbols and drawing rules for system flowcharts and piping instrumentation diagrams of refrigeration systems and heat pumps. These diagrams not only illustrate the structure and function of the refrigeration system, but also form part of all the technical documents necessary for the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of the refrigeration system.
This standard applies to refrigeration systems that achieve refrigeration through changes in the state of the working fluid, such as vapor compression refrigeration, absorption refrigeration, steam jet refrigeration, vortex tube refrigeration, compressed air refrigeration, and adsorption refrigeration.
This standard does not apply to refrigeration systems in which the internal heat transfer is achieved by an electrical circuit, such as the Peltier effect.
