Basic Information
Scope
This section discusses the range control of fossil fuel steam power stations.
From the perspective of the tasks and functions of range control, it is located between actual operational control and protection equipment. The task of operational control is to control the power generation process in such a way that the output always corresponds to the preset value, and for this purpose, each subsystem operates in accordance with economic and environmental requirements. The task of protection equipment is primarily to protect people, the environment, and equipment and their components from damage by means of shutdown. Range control is used to support operational control, so it can operate continuously under the limited conditions that may arise during transitions, such as during start-up and shutdown, and in abnormal operating conditions.
Range control often uses the actuators of operational control, which can be disconnected just like operational control. However, when range control is disconnected, the automatic range limitation of process values before the protection equipment is triggered no longer exists. Therefore, range control differs from protection equipment, which cannot be disconnected and typically operates through its dedicated actuators. This guidance document is not related to operational control and protection equipment.
The control tasks of subsystems can vary depending on the operating conditions of the entire equipment. To adapt to various control tasks, structural transformations are implemented. The following are optional structures provided for the equipment:
——Between operational control and range control;
——Within range control;
——Within operational control.
Therefore, for process tasks, structural transformations are not standalone control solutions, and they are discussed together with range control in this section (see Appendices A to G).
