Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, emission limits of exhaust smoke from compression-ignition engines in vehicles, measurement methods, and judgment principles. This standard applies to in-use vehicles equipped with compression-ignition engines, with a maximum total mass of more than 400 kg and a maximum design speed of 50 km/h or more. This standard does not apply to compact multi-drive vehicles, double-decker buses, articulated buses, semi-trailer trucks, full-trailer trucks, articulated trains, and special-purpose vehicles with a maximum total mass of more than 20 tons or a vehicle length of more than 12 m, as well as full-time four-wheel-drive vehicles.
