Scope

This document specifies the equipment and methods for determining the long-term water absorption rate of insulation materials by the diffusion method. This document describes the method used to evaluate the water absorption capacity of specific insulation materials: these materials not only endure near-100% relative humidity on both sides for a long time during use, but also have a water vapor pressure gradient on both sides, such as sloped roofs or unprotected floor insulation layers.
This document is applicable to certain insulation materials, but not to all types of insulation materials. The product standards for insulation materials should generally indicate whether this document is applicable to a specific product.
Note: For floor insulation layers, when more data is available, a lower temperature can be used instead of the test temperature of 50°C currently specified in this document.
