Scope

This document specifies the principles, reagents and materials, instrumentation, experimental procedures, result calculation, and precision for the determination of synthetic musk in cosmetics by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
This document is applicable to the determination of 11 types of synthetic musk in aqueous solutions, emulsions, creams, lipsticks, and powder-based cosmetics. The 11 types of synthetic musk include 5 nitro musks that are prohibited or restricted for use, including Parfum Ambrette, Sunflower Musk, Tibetan Musk, Ketone Musk, and Xylene Musk, and 6 polycyclic musks, including Galaxolide, Tonka Bean, Ketone Musk, Trasylol, Salicylate Musk, and Phenyl Trimethylene Musk.
