Main Technical Content: 3. Planting Environment: The Hetao Irrigation Area has flat terrain. The minimum temperature required for watermelon growth is 10°C, and the optimum temperature range is 25–30°C. The effective accumulated temperature during the entire growth period should be 2,500–3,000°C. 4. Seedling Preparation 4.1 Preparation Before Seeding: - Early spring sowing: Sowing typically occurs from mid-December to mid-January, with seedlings taking 35–40 days to mature. - Autumn-winter sowing: Sowing typically occurs from late July to mid-August. - Bed preparation: Level the land in the greenhouse and establish a bed that is 1–1.2 meters wide and 20 cm high. Cover the bottom with 1–2 cm of sieved fine soil, smooth it, and lay a geotextile membrane on top. Install geothermal heating cables with an 8–10 cm spacing and connect them in series. Cover the cables with 2 cm of sieved fine soil before placing seedling trays or nutrient pots. - Seedling trays: Use 50-hole trays filled with substrate soil. Press the holes to a depth of 0.8–1 cm. - Substrate preparation: Use high-quality peat substrate with good water retention, high permeability, and reasonable nutrient content.
