Scope

Main technical contents: 4.1 Appearance The appearance should meet the following requirements: a) It should be linear, with a single branch, and approximately 2–3 cm in length; b) It should be deep red, glossy, and free from yellow spots (no pollen residue); c) There should be no visible foreign matter. 4.2 Drying loss Determine according to General Method 0831 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The drying loss should not exceed 11.0%. 4.3 Total ash content Determine according to General Method 2302 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The total ash content should not exceed 7.0%. 4.4 Absorbance Determine according to General Method 0401 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. Measure the absorbance at a wavelength of 432 nm, and it should not be less than 0.50 4.5 Extractables Determine according to General Method 2201 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The extractables should not be less than 55.0%. 4.6 Content of safranal-I and safranal-II Determine according to General Method 0512 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The total content of safranal-I (C44H64O24) and safranal-II (C38H54O19) in the dried product should not be less than 12.0%. 4.7 Content of crocin Determine according to General Method 0512 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China. The content of crocin (C16H26O7) in the dried product should not be less than 6.0%. 4.8 Pesticide residues Determine according to General Method 2341 of the 2020 Edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China: "Determination of Multiple Residues of Prohibited Pesticides in Herbal Medicines and Herbal Extracts (Plant Category) - Method 5".
