Basic Information
Scope
This document describes the electrical phenomena and power system responses during a fault, based on the most widely used distribution system architecture and fault topology. It defines the functional requirements of fault path indicators (FPI) and distribution units (DSU), including the current and/or voltage sensors of FPI and DSU. FPI and DSU are single devices or combinations of multiple devices/functions, capable of detecting faults and indicating their location. This document is used to guide users in selecting suitable FPI/DSU and appropriate operating schemes based on the adopted solutions and operating rules (which are in accordance with conventions and/or subject to national laws on power supply continuity and power quality), while taking into account the complexity and corresponding costs of the devices used.
