Scope: This standard specifies the requirements for the selection and planning of banana orchards, variety selection and planting, soil and water management, tree management, comprehensive prevention and control of major diseases and pests, disaster prevention and remedial measures, and harvest and production record archiving in Ledong County, Hainan Province. Site selection and planning 4.1 Site selection The environmental conditions of the site should comply with the provisions of NY/T 5010. It is recommended to select soil with fertile and loose texture, such as loam or sandy loam, with a rich organic matter content, a pH of 5.5–7.5, a soil layer depth of more than 60 cm, irrigation and drainage conditions, and a groundwater level of more than 80 cm above the ground. The site should be located on a flat land or a slope of ≤15° that is sheltered from wind and cold. 4.2 Site planning 4.2.1 Establish several sub-areas, with an area of 3–7 ha per sub-area. It is recommended to set up protective forest belts around the site, with a distance of 5–6 m between the forest edge and the site. The tree species used should not have the same major diseases and pests as bananas. 4.2.2 According to the scale and topography of the site, set up an irrigation and drainage system capable of draining and irrigating. Set up main and secondary irrigation ditches around the site and connect them to the furrow ditches. For sloping sites, set up flood control ditches on the slope.
