Scope

This standard specifies the basic measurement methods for the average grain size, intercept, and grain area distribution of metallic and non-metallic polycrystalline materials. This standard applies to single-phase and two-phase systems of equiaxed and elongated grain structures. This standard also applies to other substances with similar crystalline structures, such as those with a honeycomb structure. This standard requires the use of semi-automatic or fully automatic image analysis instruments. This standard is only a recommended test method, and it cannot determine whether the tested materials are acceptable or suitable for the applicable scope. This standard does not consider all safety issues related to the test. The tester should be responsible for taking measures related to safety and health on their own.
