Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terminology definition, preventive disinfection, comprehensive diagnosis, and prevention and control measures for bovine paratuberculosis in large-scale dairy farms in Ningxia. This document is applicable to the comprehensive prevention and control of bovine paratuberculosis in large-scale dairy farms in Ningxia. Main technical content: 3. Terminology and definitions The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. 3.1 Bovine paratuberculosis Bovine paratuberculosis; Johne’s disease refers to a chronic infectious disease in cattle caused by Mycobacterium paratuberculosis, characterized by progressive emaciation and persistent diarrhea. 3.2 Infectious source of paratuberculosis The living animal body in which Mycobacterium paratuberculosis resides, grows, and reproduces, and can be excreted from the body. The infectious source of paratuberculosis includes diseased animals and carriers of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. 4. Preventive disinfection 4.1 Disinfection timing Disinfect the stables, grounds, and utensils of large-scale dairy farms at least once a week to prevent bovine paratuberculosis. 4.2 Selection of disinfectants Due to the high resistance of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis to disinfectants, large-scale dairy farms should use disinfectants that are effective against this bacterium. Recommended disinfectants include: sodium hydroxide, bleaching powder, formic acid, formaldehyde, etc. Disinfectant solutions should be prepared strictly according to the instructions for use, used immediately after preparation, and replaced regularly. It is strictly prohibited to mix acidic and alkaline disinfectants. 4.3 Disinfection objects Disinfection areas mainly include exercise yards, delivery rooms, feeding areas, milking platforms, production area roads, calf islands, and drinking stations.
