This document applies to the production and quality evaluation of whole-plant corn silage in large-scale dairy farms in Ningxia; Main technical content: 3 Terms and Definitions The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Whole-plant corn silage A forage product made from harvested and processed corn plants under airtight conditions through the fermentation of lactic acid bacteria. [Source: T/CAAA 005-218] 4 Harvesting and Transportation 4.1 Harvesting selection Select suitable harvesting machinery and harvest during clear weather. Harvest at the corn kernel stage of 1/2 to 2/3 of the milky line, when the dry matter content is 32% to 36%. 4.2 Mowing height The stubble height of whole-plant corn should be ≥15 cm. 4.3 Cutting 4.3.1 The optimal cutting length of whole-plant corn silage is 1 cm to 2 cm. 4.3.2 The grain broken rate should be above 90%. 4.4 Transportation The time required for transporting materials from the field to the grazing area should be controlled between 4 hours and 8 hours. 4.5 Preparation of silage facilities 1 day before making silage, clean and disinfect the silage pits or storage yards. Lay a wall membrane on the silage pit walls, with the seams of the wall membrane overlapping by more than 1 m.
