Terms and definitions: The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Newborn calf: A calf born at one day of age. 3.2 Suckling calf: A calf between two days and 60 days of age that has not been weaned. 3.3 Colostrum: The first milk expressed by a cow after giving birth. 3.4 Weaned calf: A calf weaned between one and six months of age. 4. Feeding and management 4.1 Feeding and management of newborn calves 4.1.1 A quiet environment with dry, clean, and comfortable bedding. The afterbirth and contaminated bedding should be cleaned in a timely manner, and the delivery room should be disinfected regularly. 4.1.2 Care of newborn calves 4.1.2.1 Separate the calf from the mother immediately after birth. Clean the oral and nasal mucus with a disinfected towel and wipe the body to ensure normal respiration and dryness. 4.1.2.2 Cut the umbilical cord 10 cm away from the navel, squeeze out the cord contents with the hand, and disinfect with 10% iodine tincture. Disinfect again when removing the calf from the delivery room. 4.1.2.3 After cleaning the calf's body, pay attention to disinfection and thermal protection. Use infrared lamps for thermal protection in autumn and winter. 4.1.2.4 Wear ear tags in a timely manner, and the ear tag number should reflect the birth year and month. Record the calf's birth weight and body measurements, etc. 4.1.2.5 Within one hour after birth, if the calf weighs >30 kg, administer 4 L of colostrum; if the calf weighs ≤30 kg, administer 3 L of colostrum.
