Scope

This standard specifies the methods for testing the content of Natural Red 4 in cosmetics by high-performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. This method is suitable for determining the content of Natural Red 4 in cosmetics. The detection limit of Natural Red 4 (calculated as cochineal acid) by liquid chromatography is 0.2 mg/kg; and the detection limit of Natural Red 4 (calculated as cochineal acid) by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is 0.1 mg/kg.
