Scope

This standard is based on a Poisson distribution population, and the probability mass function of the distribution is: P{X=x/λ} = λxx!e-λx = 0, 1, 2 where λ > 0 is the distribution parameter. This standard specifies the methods for point estimation, interval estimation, and testing of the parameter λ based on independent random samples x1, x2, ..., xn from the population. When there is sufficient reason to believe that the population follows a Poisson distribution, this standard can be used.
