Basic Information
Scope
This standard specifies the requirements for a road traffic safety management system, which enables organizations that interact with the road traffic system to reduce deaths and serious injuries related to road traffic accidents. The requirements in this standard include formulating and implementing appropriate road traffic safety policies, setting road traffic safety objectives and action plans (which take into account laws and regulations and other requirements that organizations must comply with), as well as information on elements and guidelines related to road traffic safety that organizations identify as factors they can control and influence.
This standard applies to any organization that wishes to achieve the following objectives, regardless of its type, size, and the products or services it provides:
a) Improve road traffic safety performance;
b) Establish, implement, maintain, and improve a road traffic safety management system;
c) Ensure its compliance with established road traffic safety policies;
d) Demonstrate its compliance with this standard.
This standard is intended for road traffic safety management and does not specify technical and quality requirements for transportation products and services (such as roads, traffic signs/lights, automobiles, trams, freight and passenger services, rescue and emergency services).
This standard does not require a uniform structure or documentation for road traffic safety management systems.
Road traffic safety is a shared responsibility. This standard does not exempt any road users from their obligation to comply with laws and fulfill their responsibilities, but it supports organizations in their efforts to encourage road users to comply with the law.
