Scope

Scope: This document specifies the selection of varieties, environmental conditions, pre-sowing preparation, sowing, pre-grafting preparation, grafting, post-healing management, and major pest and disease control for the production of grafted bitter melon seedlings in Yunnan Province. Applicable Technologies: 1. Terminology and Definitions: There are no defined terms or definitions in this document. 2. Variety Selection: 2.1 Selection of scions: High-yielding, disease-resistant, high-marketability, and locally adaptable excellent bitter melon varieties. 2.2 Rootstocks: Species with good compatibility and high resilience, such as Triangular Cucurbit and Black Seed Pumpkin. 2.3 Seed quality should meet the requirements of GB 16715.1. 3. Environmental Conditions: Select a location with convenient transportation, flat terrain, good ventilation and lighting. The air quality should comply with GB 3095, and the irrigation water quality should meet GB 5084 standards. 4. Pre-sowing Preparation: Follow the relevant provisions in T/YNRZ 025-2024 for pre-sowing preparation. 5. Sowing: 5.1 Grafting method: Sow the rootstock 8-10 days before the scion, and 2-3 days after the rootstock emerges. Plant the bitter melon scion when the rootstock cotyledons are fully unfolded. 5.2 Grafting method: Sow the rootstock 3-4 days before the scion. Plant one seed per hole, cover it with a layer of vermiculite or perlite after sowing, and water thoroughly. 6. Pre-grafting Preparation: 6.1 Grafting tools: Special grafting blades, small towels or sand cloths, plastic clips, small sprayers, and commonly used tools for seedbeds. 6.2 Grafting site: A greenhouse or greenhouse with shading facilities, maintaining a temperature of 25°C and an air relative humidity of over 80%. 6.3 Seedling disinfection: One day before grafting, spray the seedlings with a mixed solution of 1000 times 65% Bayanqing and 1000 times 75% Kekangang to disinfect them completely. 7.
