Scope

Scope: This document specifies the methods of wool picking and grading for cashmere goats, including the picking methods by body parts, grading, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage. This document applies to the picking, grading, packaging, and storage of cashmere goat wool. Main technical content: - Raw cashmere is obtained from goats with a double-layer coat, primarily consisting of underwool with a small amount of coarse hairs and natural impurities, and is unprocessed wool fibers. - Foreign fibers refer to non-cashmere fibers mixed into the wool, such as chemical fibers, silk, hemp, hair, and plastic ropes. - Staple length: After arranging the wool samples neatly by hand, the protruding coarse and long fibers are removed, and the remaining part is hand-pulled three times according to the "one head even" method to measure its natural length in clusters. The length is measured at the most concentrated part of the wool. - Raise a Ram: Male goats from weaning to first mating, weighing 30kg-45kg. - Ewe: Female goats from weaning to first mating, weighing 30kg-45kg. - Adult Ram: Male goats over 12 months old, weighing 55kg-70kg. - Adult Ewe: Female goats over 12 months old, weighing 55kg-70kg. 4.4 Wool picking methods by body parts: - Picking time: The picking period is generally from April to May. The time can be determined by checking the shedding of wool around the ear base and eye socket. When the root of the wool starts to loosen, it is time to pick. - Picking tools: - Specialized scissors. - Special iron combs, divided into dense combs and sparse combs. - Steel wires with a diameter of about 0.3cm, bent into hooks, with the tips polished to a round shape to reduce damage to the goat's skin. - Dense combs typically consist of 12-14 steel wires with a spacing of 0.5cm-1.0cm. - Sparse combs typically consist of 7-8 steel wires with a spacing of 2.0cm-2.5cm. - Wool picking areas: - Area A: Shoulders,
