Basic Information
Scope
Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions of cultivation techniques for Balanites amplexicaulis, site selection and land preparation, seedling cultivation, seedling management, planting, cultivation management, pest and disease control, and fruit harvesting. This document is applicable to the cultivation of Balanites amplexicaulis in eastern Guangdong. Main technical content: 4.1 Site selection: In areas with an annual average temperature of 18–28 °C, extreme minimum temperatures ≥0 °C, annual rainfall ≥1000 mm, and altitudes ≤500 m, with little fog in March–April, select acidic or slightly acidic red soil with a soil layer thickness of 50 cm or more on sunny slopes or flat lands as planting areas; avoid planting in poorly drained or alkaline soils. The air quality of the site should meet the requirements of GB 3095, the irrigation water quality should meet the requirements of GB 5084, and the soil environmental quality should meet the requirements of GB 15618. 4.2 Land preparation and planting holes 4.2.1 Land preparation: For flat lands, prepare beds with a width of 3 m and a trench width of 0.5 m and a depth of 0.3 m. For slope lands, appropriately level the terrain into terraces with a width of 1.5 m and a spacing of 1 m. 4.2.2 Planting holes: On flat lands, dig planting holes with a row spacing of 3–4 m and a planting spacing of 4–5 m on the bed surface, with a hole size of 50 cm × 50 cm × 50 cm. Add 10 kg of composted organic matter and 0.3 kg of superphosphate to each hole 20 days before planting, mix with the topsoil, and backfill to slightly above the ground level. 5 Seedling cultivation 5.1 Seed selection: Select ripe Balanites amplexicaulis fruits as seeds. After harvesting, pile them up to rot, wash them clean, and dry them in a shaded area until the hard shell naturally cracks to obtain the seeds. 5.2 Sowing: The sowing row spacing is generally 10 cm × 15 cm. Cover with a layer of 1–2 cm of fine soil, water thoroughly, a
