Scope

This document describes a method for determining the 15N abundance of three inorganic nitrogen forms (ammonium nitrogen NH4+, nitrate nitrogen NO3-, and nitrite NO2-) in soil using a trace gas preconcentration isotope ratio mass spectrometer (TGCIRMS). This document is applicable to well-mixed soils after 15N tracer experiments (f15N≤30%). The quantification limits for ammonium nitrogen in soil are 6 mg/kg, for nitrate nitrogen 3 mg/kg, and for nitrite nitrogen 0.15 mg/kg.
