Scope

Scope: This section specifies the terms and definitions for the identification of melon resistance to powdery mildew, the preparation of inoculum, the identification conditions and experimental design, inoculation, disease investigation, disease resistance evaluation, and identification record forms. This section is applicable to the indoor identification and evaluation of the resistance of various melon resources to melon powdery mildew. Main technical content: Melon belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family and is a sweet, delicious crop with a pleasant flavor. It is a high-end fruit for dessert, which is why it has consistently ranked among the top ten best-selling fruits in the international market for many years. In recent years, with the rapid improvement of people's living standards in China and the development of melon production, melon has become not only a high-end gift for relatives and friends, but also one of the most popular fruits. Powdery mildew is one of the three major diseases in melon production, with a rapid onset and spread, causing serious declines in melon yield and quality. Powdery mildew is a worldwide disease, occurring in melon-producing areas in both southern and northern China, posing a serious threat to China's melon production and causing huge losses. Abroad, powdery mildew is also the first disease to be controlled in melon production. Although chemical control can be used against powdery mildew, due to the large number of physiological races of the pathogen and their rapid differentiation, it is difficult for chemical pesticides to effectively ensure the pollution-free production of melon. This article provides a brief review of the resistance identification of melon powdery mildew, aiming to provide reference for the breeding of melon disease-resistant varieties.
