Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions, variety selection, tree age for improvement, improvement timing, improvement conditions, grafting methods, shaping and pruning, soil and fertilizer management, and pest and disease control for the "Summer Improvement" production technology of hawthorn trees. This document applies to the production technology management of "improved and upgraded" locust trees; Main technical content: Explanation of the main provisions, key technical indicators, parameters, and experimental verification discussions: (1) Hawthorn tree fruiting characteristics. Generally, one-year old nutrient branches grow to about 100cm in length, and flower buds are formed at the top of the branches in the same year. Flowers bloom and fruits ripen the following year. The traditional branch pruning technique is to form short branches with a diameter of about 0.8cm by repeatedly pinching back the auxiliary branches that grow in the spring of the same year, which results in fruits being displaced to the outside of the branches with low flower bud quality and a low fruit set rate of only about 10 flowers per cluster, with a fruit diameter of only 2.8-3.2cm and an average of 30-40 fruits per 500g, with a commercial rate of 40%. Alternatively, the second-year auxiliary branches can be pruned to form short branches and bear fruit the following year, but with poor ventilation and lighting. (2) After nearly 10 years of practice and experimentation, it was found that if the one-year old nutrient branches are not pinched back in early August, all one-year old nutrient branches are pruned back to three axillary leaves with a length of about 25cm in early August. The flower bud formation rate will reach 85%.
