Scope

Scope: This document specifies the technical requirements for the propagation of seedlings of avocado (Persea americana Mill.) in nurseries, including site selection, site preparation, seed preparation, rootstock cultivation, grafting, seedling management, seedling survey, seedling removal, and seedling grading. This document applies to the propagation of avocado seedlings. Main technical content: 1. Terms and definitions: There are no terms or definitions that need to be defined in this document. 2. Site selection: 2.1 Climate conditions: The nursery site should be located at an altitude of 700 m to 1,700 m, with an average annual temperature of 16°C to 22°C, a minimum temperature of no less than 1°C, and a maximum temperature of no more than 35°C. The average annual sunshine duration should be between 1,800 and 2,600 hours, and the climate should have a basic frost-free period. 2.2 Site selection for irrigation water: The site should be conveniently accessible, have a flat terrain, and be suitable for irrigation and drainage. It should have sufficient sunlight and a slope of no more than 5° or a flat terrain. The pH value of irrigation water should be 5.0 to 7.5, and the EC value should be 0.5 ms/cm to 0.75 ms/cm. Other requirements should follow the provisions of NY/T 1185. 3. Nursery planning and construction: 3.1 Sand bed seedling preparation: The width of the sand bed should be 1.1 m, with a height of 10 cm to 20 cm from the ground. A thick film should be laid on the bottom of the bed, and holes with a spacing of 15 cm × 15 cm should be drilled in it. An agricultural waterproof electric heating blanket should be placed on the bed, and the sides should be enclosed with hollow bricks, forming a 10 cm-high ridge. A clean, non-muddy, and uniformly coarse river sand should be used to level and compact the bed. 3.2 Seedling beds: 3.2.1 Seedling bed width: 1 m to 1.2 m, with a length determined by the terrain and operational convenience.
