Scope

This document describes the method for determining the content of free lysine, methionine, and threonine in amino acid products and premixed feed additives. This document is applicable to the determination of the content of free lysine, methionine, and threonine in feed additives such as amino acids, amino acid sulfates, and amino acid hydrochlorides, as well as in mixed feed additives and premixed feed additives. It is not applicable to the determination of the content of free lysine, methionine, and threonine in feed additives such as methionine hydroxy analogues and calcium salts of methionine hydroxy analogues, nor to the determination of the content of bound lysine in feed additives such as lysine sulfate and its fermentation by-products. This document is not applicable to distinguishing between the D and L forms of individual amino acids. The quantitative limit for free lysine, methionine, and threonine in this document is 0.1%.
