Scope
This standard specifies the definition of application services and protocol specifications for information retrieval. The service definition section describes the services implemented in an application to search and retrieve information from a database; the protocol specification section includes the definition of protocol control information, the rules for exchanging this information, and the consistency requirements that must be met when implementing the protocol.
