GB/T 43096-2023 Metallic powders—Determination of envelope-specific surface area from measurements of the permeability to air of a powder bed under steady-state flow conditions
Basic Information
Scope
This document specifies the method for measuring the air permeability and porosity of compacted metal powder layers, as well as obtaining the external specific surface area values. Under steady-state flow conditions, the permeability of the powder layer is determined using laminar air at a pressure close to atmospheric pressure. This document does not include methods for measuring permeability using the constant volume method. This document does not specify specific commercial equipment and corresponding test procedures. However, for the convenience of users, this document lists an informative appendix (see Appendix A) aimed at providing some practical information about three specific methods. If the powder exhibits agglomeration, the measured external specific surface area results will be affected by the degree of sample agglomeration. If permitted by the relevant parties, the agglomerated powder can be dispersed (see Appendix B). This document is applicable to all metal powders, including hard alloy powders with a particle size not exceeding 1,000 μm, but is typically used for particles with a particle size of 0.2 μm to 75 μm. If permitted by the relevant parties, this method can also be used for particles with poor axial symmetry (such as flaky and fibrous particles). This document is not applicable to mixtures of different powders and powders containing binders or lubricants.
