Scope
1.1 This document specifies the method of initial certification for composite materials for quality control, material screening, and preliminary design. Compared with providing multiple bilateral certifications tailored to different user needs, this document provides a low-cost and highly efficient single certification method. This document focuses on determining the allowable values for the B-basis design.
1.2 This document provides standard certification schemes (SQP), extended certification schemes (EQP), and reduced certification schemes (RQP) for composite materials. SQP includes the minimum general test requirements for composites with obvious anisotropy; EQP gives higher test requirements, including selecting representative service performance; RQP is suitable for composites with unobvious anisotropy and nominally isotropic composites, and the core parts of the preparation of test plates and test methods are the same as those of SQP.
1.3 This document is applicable to fiber-reinforced thermoset and fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites used in structural or secondary structural components. This document gives the types of composites to which each test method is applicable under different test conditions.
1.4 Appendix A provides a report form, which unifies the expression of test data. Appendix B provides a statistical analysis method for determining the allowable values for the B-basis design.
