Scope

This standard specifies the performance and testing requirements for hydrostatic pressure release units (HRUs) connected to free-floating lifesaving equipment, including inflatable liferafts and emergency radio beacons (EPIRBs). Hydrostatic pressure release units that comply with this standard and have been approved by the competent authorities can be considered to meet the requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) of 1974 and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code.
