Scope

This standard specifies the method of determining the flash point of petroleum products and other liquids using the Abel-Pensky closed-cup test.
This standard is applicable to the determination of the flash point of petroleum products and other liquids within the range of 5°C to 65°C. When the temperature is below 5°C, this method can be applied, but the accuracy of the results will inevitably be significantly lower than the values specified in 9.3.
This standard is not applicable to the determination of the flash point of multiphase substances and viscous solutions, such as varnishes, paints, or adhesives.
