Terms and definitions The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Feedstuff A substance derived from plants, animals, microorganisms, and minerals, used in the breeding process to meet the nutritional needs of dairy cows for growth, reproduction, and milking. It is a regular substance that does not belong to additives and is used in the industrial processing of dairy cattle compound feed or as a component of self-prepared feed. 3.2 Feed additives Substances added in small or trace amounts during the processing, preparation, or use of dairy cattle feed to meet their specific production or growth and reproduction needs. 3.3 Veterinary drugs Substances used to diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases in dairy cattle by purposefully regulating their physiological functions and specified for their efficacy, usage, dosage, and indications. They include biological products such as serums, vaccines, and diagnostic solutions, as well as veterinary herbal medicines, traditional Chinese medicines, chemical drugs, and their preparations. 3.4 Veterinary prescription drugs Veterinary prescription drugs are defined as those that can only be purchased and used with a veterinary prescription to promote rational drug use in veterinary clinics, avoid drug misuse, and ensure the safety of animal products. Examples include antibiotics and sedatives. 3.5 Veterinary over-the-counter drugs Veterinary over-the-counter drugs are mainly used for nutritional regulation or are simple to use, do not pose a risk of misuse, and are announced by the veterinary administrative departments of the State Council as not requiring a prescription.
