Scope

This standard specifies the procedures for measuring the vibration capacity of medium- and high-speed engines and the frequency range for determining the validity of reference data. The methods described in this standard are not applicable to low-speed engines. This standard is an engineering method, not a precision method. Whether the test is conducted on a test bench or on-site, it must be agreed upon by the user and the manufacturer. This standard is applicable to medium- and high-speed reciprocating internal combustion engines used on land, in rail traction, and on ships, but excludes agricultural tractors, road vehicles, and aerospace engines. This standard can be applied to engines used to drive road construction machinery, earthmoving machinery, industrial trucks, and other applications for which there are currently no suitable international standards available.
