Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions, production site environment, seedling cultivation, soil, fertilizer, and water management, pest and disease control, harvesting, and storage for the pollution-free production of Xihuangcao (Astragalus membranaceus). This document is applicable to the pollution-free production of Xihuangcao. Main technical content: 4.3 Soil Environmental Quality The soil environmental quality shall comply with the requirements of GB 15618 and NY/T 391. Highly active strong acid soils, strongly leached soils, low-activity leached soils, red sand soils, iron-aluminum soils, alluvial soils, black calcareous soils, and rocky soils are preferred. The suitable pH value for Xihuangcao cultivation is 5.5–7.0. During Xihuangcao cultivation, avoid waterlogging. It is recommended to select loose and fertile soils with deep layers, facing the sun, and convenient for irrigation and drainage, such as sandy loam soils. 5.1.3 Seed Treatment Soak Xihuangcao seeds (mature seeds collected from pest-free seed-producing fields) in clean water for 10 minutes. Select full and healthy seeds with uniform size, and then disinfect and sterilize the selected Xihuangcao seeds with a 1/5000 potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes. After that, soak them in clean water for 24 hours, remove them, and dry them. 5.1.5 Sowing Rate The sowing rate is approximately 800 g/666.7 m2. After sowing, cover with a layer of fine river sand (the thickness of the river sand should be 2–3 times that of the seeds). Then, use a sprayer to thoroughly water the seeds and set up a white plastic film greenhouse (30–40 cm high) to maintain humidity and temperature. 5.2.1 Cutting Selection Select healthy, pest-free Xihuangcao branches from the field or seed-producing areas as cuttings. The length of the cuttings should be about 10 cm, with 3–4 nodes. Leave 1–2 pairs of leaves on the top branches (all leaves on other nodes are removed), and cut the lower
