Terms and Definitions The following terms and definitions apply to this document: 3.1 Mechanical Strip-Tillage A method of preparing a slope for afforestation by using tillage machinery to excavate a strip-tillage surface along contour lines with a width of 3–4 m and a depth of 25–30 cm on the slope of a cleared area for afforestation. 3.2 Strip-Tillage Surface The inclined slope formed within the strip-tillage strip. 3.3 Water-Conducting Slope A slope along the direction of water flow in a strip-tillage area. 3.4 Berm A water-retaining embankment built along the outer edge of the slope. 3.5 Water-Conducting Dam Head A water outlet built at the end of the strip-tillage slope. 3.6 Low Mountains Mountains with an absolute height of 500–1000 m and a relative height of 200–500 m, with an average slope of 5°–10°.
