Scope: This document specifies the technical requirements for high-quality, efficient, and sustainable cultivation of Princess Smile lychees, including terms and definitions, tree pruning, shoot management during the budding period, flower bud induction, fruit management, and pest and disease control. This document is applicable to Princess Smile lychee production gardens in Hainan Province. Main technical content: 4. Tree pruning 4.1 Pruning methods 4.1.1 Short-cut pruning: Conduct short-cut pruning on medium-strong branches with a circumference of more than 0.5 cm on the outer edge of the crown. Leave 3–10 cm at the base of the shoot as the base branch for autumn shoot growth. For large-spaced rows (5m × 6m), use light pruning and construct a tall crown; for smaller-spaced rows (3m × 4m), conduct heavy pruning to suppress crown expansion. 4.1.2 Back-cut pruning: Based on tree vigor and spacing, prune back to large branches with a circumference of 1.5–3 cm. Pruning can be done every 3–5 years or in batches annually. 4.2 Post-harvest pruning: Conduct pruning 10–15 days after fruit harvest. In southern Hainan, pruning occurs in mid-to-late May; in northern Hainan, it occurs in early June. 4.3 Branch and shoot thinning: Conduct thinning after the second or third flush of shoots turn green. Remove crossed branches, ground-level branches, diseased/pest-infested branches, or overly strong or weak shoots, ensuring uniform and well-distributed shoot growth. 5. Shoot management 5.1 Shoot-promoting fertilization: Within 5–7 days after fruit harvest, dig a 40–60 cm deep and 30–40 cm wide ring trench outside the tree's drip line. Based on an average fruit yield of 50 kg per tree, apply 20–25 kg of commercial organic fertilizer, 1 kg of calcium-magnesium phosphate, and 1–2 kg of high-nitrogen compound fertilizer (22-6-8) per tree, all applied in the trench.
