Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for conducting an energy consumption assessment of pump systems (hereinafter referred to as "assessment") and generating a results report. The system here includes the entire process from energy input to the output of work accomplished by this energy. The objectives of the pump system energy consumption assessment are to determine the current energy consumption of the existing system and identify methods to improve system efficiency. These requirements include: -- Organizing and conducting the assessment; -- Analyzing the data collected during the assessment; -- Reporting and archiving the assessment results. This standard applies to open and closed-loop pumps commonly used in industrial, public, commercial, and municipal facilities requiring assessment. It is applicable to electric-driven pump systems predominant in most industrial facilities, but also applies to other drive types such as turbines and engines. However, this standard: a) does not specify how to design pump systems; b) does not stipulate the qualifications and professional knowledge required of standard users (Appendix C only defines the professional knowledge, experience, and competency requirements for assessors); c) does not address personnel training or qualifications; d) does not prescribe implementation requirements for recommendations made during the assessment process, but does stipulate requirements for preparing action plans; e) does not specify measurement and verification requirements for energy savings resulting from implementing assessment recommendations; f) does not prescribe measurement requirements and calibration requirements for measurement equipment used during the assessment process; g) does not prescribe cost estimates or financial analyses for implementing recommendations made during the assessment process; h) does not prescribe specific steps required for safe operation of equipment during the assessment process.
