Scope

This document specifies the design, installation, and testing requirements for cable pulley-driven steering systems for small boats with or without propulsion engines, and for small boats with outboard engines with a total power of not more than 37 kW. This document specifies the design and testing requirements for all components of the cable pulley-driven steering system, including the mechanical interface from the steering mechanism to the rudder shaft or outboard engine. It is applicable to cable pulley-driven steering systems installed on brackets or bulkheads. This document is not applicable to emergency steering devices for small boats.
