Scope: This document specifies the terminology and definitions, diagnosis, drug treatment, and comprehensive prevention and control of coccidiosis in dairy cows on large-scale farms. This document is applicable to the comprehensive prevention and control of coccidiosis in dairy cows on large-scale farms. General dairy farms may refer to it for implementation. Terminology and definitions The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. 3.1 Dairy cow coccidiosis A type of intestinal parasitic disease characterized by hemorrhagic enteritis caused by coccidia of the Eimeria genus parasitizing in the digestive tract of dairy cows, leading to diarrhea, malnutrition, and emaciation. 3.2 OPG (Oocysts per gram) The number of oocysts in feces per gram, used to calculate the intensity of coccidia infection. 4. Diagnosis 4.1 A comprehensive judgment should be made based on epidemiology, clinical symptoms, and pathological changes, referring to DB64/T1723. 4.2 When clinical symptoms such as bloody stools and foul-smelling, mucus-containing feces, and post-mortem findings of hemorrhagic enteritis and ulcers are observed, an examination of oocysts in feces should be conducted. If the number of oocysts meets the requirements specified in GB/T 18647, the diagnosis can be confirmed. 4.3 Pathogen examination 4.3.1 The main coccidia prevalent in Ningxia include subspherical, bovine, and Qiu's Eimeria (see Appendix A for oocyst morphology). 4.3.2 The examination of oocysts in feces should be conducted in accordance with GB/T 18647. 4.4 Comprehensive judgment 4.4.1 Epidemiological characteristics The incubation period of dairy cow coccidiosis is approximately 2–3 weeks, sometimes up to 1 month. Calves typically experience an acute course with a duration of 10–15 days, and severe infections can lead to death within 1–2 days after onset.
