Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions, dry cow and periparturient cow feeding and management methods, TMR and nutritional levels, and other feeding and management practices for large-scale dairy farms in Ningxia. This document is applicable to the feeding and management of dry cows and periparturient cows in large-scale dairy farms in Ningxia. Main technical content: 3. Terms and definitions The following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. 3.1 Dry cow A cow that stops milking 60 days before delivery and continues until 21 days before delivery. 3.2 Periparturient cow A cow from 21 days before delivery to 21 days after delivery. Among them, the 21 days before delivery are the pre-parturient period, and the 21 days after delivery are the post-parturient period. 3.3 Total mixed ration (TMR) A nutritionally balanced mixed feed formulated according to the nutritional needs of cows and the nutritional value of feed ingredients. The coarse feed, concentrated feed, minerals, vitamins, and additives are cut and mixed by specialized mixing machines in a certain proportion to ensure a relatively balanced nutritional level. (Source: NY/T 3049-2016) 4. Dry cow methods 4.1 A hidden mastitis test should be conducted one week before dry cow, and normal dry cow should be performed if the test result is negative. If it is positive, treatment should be carried out until the result is negative before dry cow. 4.2 Use the one-time dry cow method. On the scheduled dry cow day, all milk from the four mammary glands should be expressed once, and a long-acting antibiotic dry cow ointment should be injected into each mammary gland. Use nipple sealant to seal the nipples and perform nipple disinfection with a post-disinfection solution.
