Scope

This standard specifies the test method for the lateral spread performance of flames along the vertical surface of samples. This standard applies to the surface characteristics of flat-type single materials, composite materials, or components used on the exposed surfaces of buildings and transportation vehicles (such as ships, trains, etc.). Tubular products can also be tested using the methods of this standard through special installation and fixation (see Appendix D).
This standard is used to describe and measure the characteristics of materials, products, or components under the presence of an ignition flame in a laboratory environment, corresponding to radiant heat. It is not suitable for independently evaluating the fire hazards and fire risks of materials, products, or components in actual fires.
