Scope

This document serves as a technical specification, providing guidance for various technical committees on the insulation coordination of equipment with rated voltages of AC 1,000 V to 2,000 V and DC 1,500 V to 3,000 V. For equipment with rated voltages not exceeding AC 1,000 V and DC 1,500 V, as well as insulation coordination equipment with higher or lower internal voltages, the relevant requirements can be found in IEC 606641. This document applies to equipment operating at altitudes up to 2,000 m and provides guidance for use in higher altitude regions. The document specifies the electrical clearances, creepage distances, and solid insulation guidelines required for equipment to meet safety requirements, including relevant electrical testing methods. Note: Since the requirements for functional insulation do not fall under safety requirements, corresponding provisions are not included. This document does not address the determination of the following distances: -- insulation through liquids; -- insulation through gases other than air; -- insulation through compressed air.
