Scope

Scope: This standard specifies the technical requirements for all aspects of Simmental cattle production, including feeding, management, breeding selection, epidemic prevention, supplementary feeding, mating, livestock withdrawal, and the establishment of breeding records. This standard applies to the breeding and management of Simmental cattle in breeding farms, livestock farms, cooperatives, and breeding zones. Main technical content: 5. Simmental cattle management 5.1 Group production: Separate groups for cows, calves, and growing cattle. 5.2 Simmental calf management 5.2.1 Calving: Simmental cows begin calving in March-April. Attention should be paid to cold protection and warmth during this period. Assisted delivery should be provided for first-time mothers and difficult deliveries. 5.2.2 Suckling: Simmental calves should be nursed by their mothers within 0.5 to 2.0 hours after birth, allowing them to suckle colostrum. 5.2.3 Ear tagging: Calves should wear ear tags on both ears, with each tag numbered uniquely. 5.2.4 Physical measurements: Determine growth and development indicators such as birth weight, six-month growth weight, body height, body length, chest circumference, and calf circumference. 5.2.5 Recordkeeping: Establish individual files for each cow, recording basic information including ear tag number, birth date, gender, father's and mother's ear tag numbers, characteristics, and physical measurements. 5.2.6 Weaning: Wean calves aged 4-6 months.
